COGENERATION
COMBINED HEAT & POWER (CHP)

Cogeneration is the process of using a Single Source of Fuel to Generate Electricity On-Site and turning the Waste Heat Energy into Re-Usable Sources of Energy.

The single source of fuel is generally Natural Gas of which supplies a Gas Fired Turbine responsible for generating an electricity supply. The fuel source or gas can be supplied either from Natural Gas such as ‘Town Gas’ or via Waste Gas Generation known as Methane Capture to feed a BioGas or Biomass powered Cogeneration System. Methane Gases can be derived from Corn Husk, Sugar Cane, Cow Poop, Sludge Ponds or Municipal Waste for example.

Through the process of operation, the Gas Fired Turbine Unit generates approximately the same in heat power as it does in energy. For example if your Gas Fired Power Station produces 10MW in capacity, you will have approximately 10MW in usable Waste Heat Energy. This Waste Heat Energy can be captured and transferred to provide heating or hot water requirements of a building or any type of facility with high demands in Electricity Consumption, Heating & Cooling Requirements (HVAC) or significant Hot Water or Refrigeration needs such as Food Processing Operations. Cogeneration also provides a reliable source of electricity back up for energy critical operations.

Cogeneration effectively means your using one fuel source to achieve many forms of energy requirements including ‘Waste Heat’ energy. Through the process of Cogeneration your efficiency will improve by 80% plus compared with Coal Fired supplied electricity. Because the Cogeneration System is installed in or very near to the building, you will experience a lot less electricity loss and better quality of supply as you would compared to being supplied coal fired powered electricity from the grid.

Cogeneration produces significantly less Co2 Emissions then electricity derived Coal whilst delivering the same amount in energy. In doing so, you will future impact proof the business against rising costs in traditional energy supply, carbon credit taxes or schemes and allow you to showcase your business to the wider community promoting corporate sustainability and responsibility initiatives.

TRIGENERATION

COMBINED HEAT, POWER & COOLING (CHPC)

Trigeneration is simply Cogeneration Technology with an add on system utlising the waste heat energy to provide Industrial Cooling for Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Refrigeration Systems.

The thermal capture of waste heat in this instance would be channeled and used to generate the energy required to produce the chilled water for air conditioning and refrigeration requirements of a building. An Absorption Chiller would be connected to to the CHP System in this instance and basically now creating the TRIGENERATION or CHPC addition to Cogeneration.

To explain an Absorption Chiller, they are heat driven chillers which require a refrigerant and thermal source to generate the cooling for HVAC and Refrigeration Heavy Facilities. Trigeneration provides the opportunity to use a renewable based energy source to power and heat these hugely important systems rather than using and relying on grid supplied energy.

Breaking down of waste matter produces a rich BioGas by-product called… Methane!
